*** We will be making drums in a lovely outdoor spot with plenty of space for social distancing. Masks are encouraged but not required. ***

This will be the fourth year that we've taught drum making at this lovely location near Centralia, Washington, and each workshop has been magical. Because we have a bit of a journey to get there, we teach both the laced style of shamanic drum and the pegged European style drum. This year we will be adding the Celtic Bodhran to our offerings. Please select only one drum to make in the workshop, experience has taught that trying to make two drums in a single workshop is very difficult.

Master drum maker Michelle Meister will guide you in making your own amazing shamanic drum and beater.

LACED SHAMAN DRUM: Choice of red stag deer, horse, buffalo or elk, in sizes from 12" to 20". All drums will be made on cedar hoops. You may choose our Harmonic Shamanic five spoke handle or the Nine Worlds handle for your drum.

A soft suede handle wrap and instructions may be purchased to add to your drum after it is dry.

PEGGED EUROPEAN DRUM: Choice of Deer, Horse, Reindeer or Goat. The Northern European Drums come with a choice of antler or wood handle, in 12" to 20" sizes on cedar hoops, or 15" or 18" sizes on maple hoops. Bodhrans have a crossed wooden handle, and are available in 15" or 18", shallow (2 7/8") rim or deep (3 1/2") rim. Though you will be making a traditional drum beater, Bodhrans are traditionally played with a wooden tipper, which is available for purchase.

All supplies are included, though you may bring your own stick for your beater if you like. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or cushion to sit on the floor and be ready to make magic!

To look at more examples of these drums, please see or the Drums section of this website.

Limited to 12. Pre-registation is required. Register here or call 503-933-9038 for phone registration or questions. Registration closes June 21, 2020.
